Apply to Adopt A Pug

Please complete all of the questions and mail or email it to the Rescue. Please list the name of any pet you have owned in the past as well as any current pets and the pet’s veterinarian. In the section that asks for references it would be best for you to list friends who have seen you and your family interact with pets. After the application is received and approved a volunteer will be in touch to discuss adoption. It is necessary that you involve all members of your household in the adoption process.

Rescues and shelters share common goals, but are very different in many ways including administration, resources, and ideologies. The Rescue is never under pressure to adopt dogs quickly in order to free kennel space. Please read the information for potential adopters and view our pugs.

Home Visits

When the home visit is scheduled, all members of your household must be present to insure everyone is in agreement on the selection of breed and adoption procedures. If the adoption fails or you are unable to care for the dog according to the contract, the dog will be returned at your expense to the Rescue for re-homing. This insures the rescue dogs are not surrendered to shelters or gifted to a third party. If you rent your home property or are a tenant, please include a letter from your landlord stating your home has been approved for a dog and that the pet deposit will be paid if one is required. This will help to insure there are no misunderstandings later.

Responsible Rescue Policies

In addition, Pug Rescue of NWA has the policy that dogs are not gifts, including holiday or birthday. December adoptions are limited to those who have adopted from this Rescue previously to prevent gifting and misunderstandings. Please do not try to adopt a dog with the intention of giving it to someone else. This Rescue adheres to the policy of responsible rescues that dogs are not adopted on a first come first serve basis, but are adopted to the best possible placement.

Previous Applicants

If you have adopted from this Rescue and it has been over 3 years since your application, you will be required to submit a new one.

Out of State Applications

Out of state applications are welcome, but please keep in mind for the safety of the dogs, this Rescue does not participate in commercial pet transports, including Uber Dog. The adoptive family will travel to Northwest Arkansas for the adoption and to transport the pug home. If you will be flying, please purchase your tickets for XNA, Fayetteville/Bentonville/Northwest Arkansas. You will purchase one ticket for yourself and one for the pug, if it is required. The pug will fly in the cabin with you in an approved FAA carrier.

Please keep in mind rescue dogs have special needs as their experiences have not always been in loving stable homes. If they were healthy, well adjusted, social dogs, they would be with their original owners. Adopting a rescue dog is a labor of love. Every aspect of rescue is fluid and subject to change at a moment’s notice. Please remember the dog you are seeking may not continue to be available if you do not apply timely.
